In a transformative reform, Indian Union Cabinet has approved a new ‘Agnipath’ Scheme for recruitment of youth in the Armed Forces (Indian Navy, Indian Army, Indian Air Force) in 2022.
A total of 46000 posts are to be filled under this Agnipath Recruitment Scheme. Youth selected under this scheme will be called Agniveers. They will be enrolled in the Armed Forces for 4 years period under respective Service Acts and they will form a distinct rank different from existing ranks. Agniveer Enrolment will be based on ‘All India All Class’ basis.
Agniveers who got selected in permanent / regular cadre after 4 years, would be required to serve for a further engagement period of minimum 15 years.

Eligibility criteria:
- Age limit: 17.5 to 23 years
- Educational Qualification will remain as in vogue for enrollment in various categories. For Example, For entry into General Duty (GD) soldier, Class 10th pass is the requirement.
- Application fee: to be notified
- Service Period: 4 years
- Total Salary during 1st year: Rs. 30000

Benefits of Agnipath Scheme:
- up to 25% of each specific batch of Agniveers will be enrolled in regular cadre of the Armed Forces.
